DownloadReady to import your existing data?
Follow these steps in the Commingle app. Upload your Excel file and your transactions will be imported in just a few moments. Review the results before confirming the import.
Download Excel templateOpen the menu
Tap the menu button in the top-right corner of the Home screen.
Go to Manage data
Scroll to the bottom of the menu and open Manage data.
Excel format
Commingle imports transactions from Excel using the following columns.

| ARequired | Date. Use an Excel Date cell whenever possible. Otherwise, use the format YYYY-MM-DD. |
| BRequired | Category. The category with the same name must already exist in Commingle. |
| COptional | Title. If left blank, the category name will be used automatically. |
| DRequired | Currency. ISO 4217 currency code such as USD, EUR or GBP. |
| ERequired | Amount. Use negative values for expenses and positive values for income. The cell should contain a numeric value rather than text. |
| FOptional | Event. If provided, an event with the same name must already exist in Commingle. |
| GOptional | Wallet. If provided, a wallet with the same name must already exist in Commingle. |
Additional columns are ignored and won’t affect the import.
Most banks, budgeting apps and spreadsheets export data in different formats. You may need to rearrange the columns in your Excel file before importing.
- The first row is treated as column headers and is ignored.
- Your transactions should start on row 2.
- You can import up to 2,000 transactions per file.
- To import more than 2,000 transactions, simply split them across multiple files and import them one after another.

You can download your Google Sheet as an Excel file ready to import into Commingle.
Choose Download
In Google Sheets, click File in the top menu bar, then select Download.
Choose Excel
From the download menu, select Microsoft Excel (.xlsx).
Common import issues
Don’t worry–most import issues are easy to fix. Some of the most common reasons are:
- Missing required values.
- Invalid date format.
- Categories that don’t exist in Commingle.
- Wallets or events that don’t exist in Commingle.
- Invalid ISO 4217 currency codes.
- Amounts stored as text instead of numbers.
If Commingle finds any problems, it will highlight the affected rows and explain what needs to be fixed before you import again.
Start with a few transactions
Before importing your entire history, try importing just 2–3 transactions first. Once you’ve confirmed everything looks correct, import the rest of your data.
